Tanya Fernández Batres

Tanya is a lawyer and holds a degree in Legal and Social Sciences and a master’s degree in Child and Adolescent Development Management from Rafael Landívar University in Guatemala. She is a member of the board of Cristian Alliance for Orphans in Guatemala and is part of her own law firm, The Legal Hub Guatemala. She has 15 years of experience working to serve and defend the rights of children and adolescents in Guatemala. For almost 10 years, she worked at International Justice Mission as a Specialist in Cases of Child Sexual Assault, where she was able to collaborate in the implementation of best practices in investigation and litigation within her country’s justice system, working closely with public prosecutors, investigators and judges. She was a university professor in the Master’s in Child and Adolescent Development Management program at Rafael Landívar University in Guatemala. Since 2019, she has been working as a consultant on issues related to Children’s rights and Care Reform for organizations such as UNICEF Panama, UNICEF Guatemala, Fundación Sobrevivientes-Guatemala, Maestral International, Better Care Network, and Changing The Way We Care Guatemala, and served as an advisor on child labor at her country’s Ministry of Labor. She has taken several courses, including Violence Against Children (VAC) and the Influencer model, which focuses on strategies for effectively solving persistent problems.
